Requesting vacation or personal leave through RemoFirst is relatively straightforward. The more confusing part comes afterward, especially when plans change.

A request may be pending, approved, rejected, canceled, or marked as taken. These statuses aren’t just labels. They determine what you can still change and whether further action is needed.

Creating a Time-Off Request

RemoFirst provides a dedicated Time off section.

Select + New Request to enter the start and end dates of your planned absence.

The form also asks you to select a reason. Available categories include vacation, sick leave, parental leave, caregiver leave, educational leave, bereavement, and several other types of absence.

You can add a description and supporting documentation. Some employers may require additional evidence for particular leave categories.

Once submitted, the request enters the approval process.

Half Days Are Supported

One useful detail is the ability to request half a day rather than an entire day.

If your leave begins during the second half of a workday, select Start from second half of the day.

If you’re returning during the second half of the final day, select End in first half of the day.

RemoFirst counts these selections as half-day periods.

This avoids requesting an entire day when only part of it is needed.

Weekends and National Holidays

RemoFirst calculates the duration of a time-off request without including weekends or national holidays in the worker’s country of residence.

The request window includes a National Holidays link where you can review the relevant holiday calendar.

This matters for international teams.

Two people requesting the same calendar dates may have different leave calculations because their countries observe different public holidays.

Don’t assume that a colleague’s calculation will match yours.

What Does Pending Mean?

Immediately after submission, the request receives Pending status.

At this stage, your employer hasn’t completed its review.

RemoFirst allows you to edit a pending request.

Open the request, make the necessary changes, and select Update.

You can also cancel it using Cancel request.

This is useful if you entered the wrong dates or your plans changed before approval.

What Changes After Approval?

Once your employer approves the request, its status changes to Approved.

The request is no longer an ordinary editable draft.

However, RemoFirst allows an approved request to be canceled if the leave period hasn’t started.

This is different from changing a pending request.

If you need to move an already approved vacation to different dates, don’t assume you can simply rewrite the original dates.

Review the available cancellation options and coordinate the replacement request with your employer.

Rejected and Canceled Requests

A rejected request appears with Rejected status.

This means the employer didn’t approve the proposed absence.

A canceled request appears as Cancelled.

These outcomes aren’t interchangeable.

A rejected request reflects an approval decision, while a canceled request indicates that the original request was withdrawn.

If you still need time away, clarify the issue before submitting another request.

What Does Taken Mean?

RemoFirst automatically changes a completed leave period to Taken.

According to its documentation, this occurs the day after the requested period has passed.

The status helps distinguish future approved leave from time off that has already occurred.

It doesn’t mean a new request needs to be submitted.

Understanding Your Remaining Balance

The platform also provides a breakdown of available and previously used leave days.

However, leave entitlements depend on the applicable employment arrangement and local requirements.

The balance shown in RemoFirst should reflect the relevant leave policy.

If the number looks incorrect, compare it with your approved requests and ask your HR team or manager to review the discrepancy.

Avoid creating additional requests simply to correct a balance that appears inaccurate.

Why the Employer’s Decision Still Matters

Submitting a request through RemoFirst doesn’t automatically mean the absence is approved.

The employer reviews the request and makes the approval decision.

RemoFirst’s local teams may also review leave classifications for compliance with local employment requirements.

This is particularly relevant because the platform supports organizations operating in different countries.

The same leave category may be subject to different rules depending on where the worker is employed.

The Practical Difference Between Request Statuses

The most useful habit is checking the request’s current status before trying to change anything.

A pending request can be edited or canceled. An approved request can still be canceled before the leave begins, but it shouldn’t be treated as an editable draft.

Rejected requests require clarification, while completed leave is recorded as taken.

RemoFirst makes time-off tracking convenient, but the status determines what happens next. Review your dates, half-day selections, and local holidays before submitting, and don’t assume that approval leaves every editing option available.
